Best practices before you convert

Choose the right split mode

Use Extract pages when you need a new PDF containing a specific range such as 1,3,5-8. Use Split every page when every page should become an individual file. Use Split every N pages when a long PDF should become regular batches such as 5 pages per file.

For visual page picking, Extract Pages gives a thumbnail-based workflow. Split PDF is faster when you already know the page numbers.

Avoid range mistakes

Check that page ranges are inside the document length and that ranges go forward. LiftPDF validates invalid syntax before generating the output.

FAQ

Can I extract only selected pages?

Yes. Use page ranges like 1,3,5-8 and LiftPDF will create one PDF with only those pages.

Can I split every page into a separate PDF?

Yes. The split every page mode creates a ZIP file containing page-1.pdf, page-2.pdf and the rest of the pages.

Can I split a PDF every 2, 5 or 10 pages?

Yes. Use Split every N pages, choose a preset or enter a custom number, and LiftPDF creates a ZIP with clearly named files such as split-pages-1-5.pdf.

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. The split runs client-side in your browser with pdf-lib and JSZip.

Can I preview pages before splitting?

Yes. After upload, LiftPDF renders page thumbnails in your browser so you can see the page numbers and dimensions before choosing ranges.

Can I click pages instead of typing ranges?

Yes. In Extract page ranges mode, you can click page thumbnails to select or unselect pages. The range field updates automatically.

What happens if I select duplicate pages?

Duplicate page numbers are cleaned up automatically while preserving the final page order from the original PDF.

Will splitting change PDF quality?

No. LiftPDF copies the original PDF pages into a new file, so the content, dimensions and quality are preserved.

Can I split password-protected PDFs?

Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. If the file cannot be read, LiftPDF shows a clear error instead of creating a broken output.

Does Split PDF work on mobile?

Yes. The tool works in modern mobile browsers. You can type ranges or tap page thumbnails to choose pages.
