Best practices before you convert

Unlock only authorized documents

Unlock PDF is designed for files you own or are allowed to access. You still need the valid open password or owner password; the tool does not bypass encryption.

The unlocked copy is created locally with QPDF WASM and can be used in other LiftPDF tools that cannot process encrypted or restricted PDFs directly.

Owner password restrictions

Some PDFs open without a password but still restrict printing, copying or editing. LiftPDF detects this case and asks for the owner password before removing those restrictions.

The final PDF is verified before download so the output does not silently keep the encryption dictionary.
